Cargo Intelligence
B/L, manifests and AWB
A B/L (bill of lading), cargo manifests and air waybills (AWB) have dozens of fields, most of which are only needed for internal accounting, D&D analysis or shipment tracking — not for a legal decision. The Cargo Intelligence module extracts exactly this data from both document types, while clearly observing one strict limit, which we explain below.
Important limitation
This tool extracts data only for internal use. It never confirms a document's legal validity, transfer of ownership, or authenticity. A B/L number is treated as a text identifier, not as a legal-status value. If you need legal confirmation of a document (e.g. for a bank or a port), that is not this tool's purpose.
How it works
01 You confirm the limitation
Before the first upload, you confirm you understand — this is not a legal document verification tool.
02 You upload the document
A B/L, manifest or AWB in PDF or image format.
03 You get structured data
Sender, consignee, vessel, voyage number, container numbers, weight, ports, B/L number.
Who this matters to
- Forwarders who need to quickly enter B/L data into their internal system for shipment tracking, without seeking legal confirmation.
- Accounting departments processing ocean freight invoices who want to automatically link a container number to its B/L.
- D&D analysis — a container number and dates from a B/L help link it faster to demurrage invoices.
What you actually get
- Structured B/L/manifest data, ready for internal use.
- A clear separation between data extraction (what this tool does) and legal confirmation (what it does NOT do) — so you never overestimate what you got.
- A container number list, ready to link with the D&D audit if you use both Demurrit products.
Air cargo
The module reads air waybills (AWB) the same way it reads bills of lading: it extracts the number, route, weights, dimensions and charge lines.
AWB number check
An air waybill number has a check digit. A wrong number means a delayed transit, cargo that can't be located, and often a storage fee. The check is run at upload time.
Chargeable weight recalculation
Volumetric weight is calculated from the dimensions and compared against what's stated on the invoice.
Weight break
When a shipment weighs slightly less than the next rate tier, it's often cheaper to charge it at that tier's minimum weight. The calculator below shows the principle with two rate tiers — real contracts often have more, and are worth checking individually.
Free storage time tracking
At an air terminal, time is measured in hours, not days — checking whether free time was exceeded (actual storage time vs. contracted free time and the invoice amount) happens on the audit side (see below).
The module doesn't assess whether an invoice is legitimate and doesn't file claims — it shows the calculation difference based on your own document data. We offer the air terminal storage audit on the audit side

Frequently asked questions
How long are uploaded documents kept?
Original documents are kept for 24 months from upload, customs documents for 40 months. After the period expires the original file is deleted automatically, the data extracted from it remains. If you want a specific document removed earlier (GDPR Art. 17 right to erasure), contact us by email — there is currently no self-service delete button in the portal.
Can I use this tool to resolve an ownership or letter-of-credit dispute?
No. That is explicitly not this tool's purpose. Such questions require the original document and a legal/banking procedure, not automatic extraction.
Why such a strict limitation?
Because the cost of an error here is disproportionate — a cargo seizure or a frozen letter of credit due to a wrongly "confirmed" document would be a far more serious problem than any other use case for this product.
How it's purchased
Included in any Cargo plan. The plan limits the number of modules: Starter 1, Professional 2, Business 3, Enterprise all four.
